The AllFacebook blog recently published a series on how to attract 3000 Facebook fans in 30 days. It was a bit of a gimmicky series and I have to admit the majority of the author's suggestions weren't that practical. That said, his article on mini-competitions was his best one. If these competitions are a little more complex than what you're up for, try what worked for my business. Institute a monthly giveaway. My t-shirt company's Facebook fan page added hundreds of members in a few short months, largely because we give away a free tee to a random Facebook fan each month. If you're Facebook fanbase isn't what you'd like, consider the giveaway technique. Be sure to make it known to customers that you're running this promotion so that they are encouraged to sign up. We have a link to our fan page and giveaway on the top of every page of our website.
